
Dr. Rajib Banik is the Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at BIRDEM General Hospital and Ibrahim Medical College. He completed his MBBS from Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital (Shahjalal University of Science and Technology) and his MS in Thoracic Surgery from the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He has performed over 600 individual major thoracic surgery cases and has been involved in more than 2,500 individual and assisted thoracic procedures. His surgical expertise covers Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) — including pleural biopsy, management of recurrent pneumothorax and decortication for empyema thoracis — along with resectional lung surgery, pleural, pericardial, oesophageal, diaphragmatic, chest wall and mediastinal surgery, and management of foreign bodies in the airway and oesophagus. He is also skilled in flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, rigid oesophagoscopy and pleuroscopy. Dr. Banik completed an International Uniportal VATS and Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (RATS) training program at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University, China, and has presented his research at national and international forums, including the Bangladesh International Cancer Congress and Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital.
